Coming Up: A Reality Check Link Party

You can find information about this link up party here.In a phone conversation with a friend today, I realized that women are hyper-conscious about looking good to each other. By looking good, I don’t mean appearance. I just mean we want things to look a certain way, to be put together either on ourselves or in our homes.Think about this. The last time your friends came over for game night, movie night, cocktails, etc did you just relax all day and then welcome them with open arms or did you spend all day (or week?) cleaning and prepping so that everything would be perfect? Your kids would be bathed and well dressed, your husband would be too, your house would look it’s best – clean, organized, the decor well thought out.In blogland we post pictures of how our projects turned out, how the house looks when we kick the crap…

Kitchen Organization – Part 2 – The Pantry

The weather is BEA.u.ti.ful here in sunny Florida. It was a needed change from the chilly, snowy “spring” we’ve had in Maryland this year. I’m not looking forward to going back to the weather. As I mentioned before I left for vacation, I wanted to show you what I was up to while I should have been packing. In the past, I’ve bragged about how *ahem* opulent our kitchen is. I knew that if I showed you just how awesome our kitchen was, you’d be forever jealous of me and stop reading the blog entirely…and then I woke up from my dream world. 😉 Let me show you.Here is my pantry:Yep. That closet is my pantry. Please, don’t envy me. 😉 OK, really though, that’s it. It’s a pre-fab Rubbermaid or Closetmaid cabinet made of MDF. It’s about as spectacular as you’d imagine. It’s serviceable, but it has definite drawbacks, but…

Sewing 102 – Pillows and More Pillows

Hey y’all. I’ve been busy getting ready to leave for FL very early tomorrow morning, but I wanted to get one good post in before I left. I’ve got a couple more ready for this weekend so you’ll still see me around, and I’m hoping to take some awesome pictures to share while on vacation. :)So a few weeks ago I wrote about my first sewing class at Joann Fabrics and Crafts. I can’t tell you how stinkin’ excited I am to be learning how to sew. Oh sure, before the classes I could do a little here and there, mainly a straight line, but now I really feel like I can do something. Scrappy Mom would be so proud if she could see me today. 🙂 In the first class, we learned how to make pillow cases and I made this one: It will be going with me to Florida. :)In Sewing 102,…

Pre-Trip Mania

So on Thursday, the Hubs and I are driving the insane 12 hours it takes to get to Florida to visit my family for my brother’s Big 5-0. I of course have my lists made and my process of planning in full swing. Am I the *only* one out there who takes on way TOO MUCH when getting ready for a trip. I’m dying here folks. Why do I inflict this pain on myself? Right now the list is at 45 things…yeah.So is it just me or do y’all do this too?

Kitchen Organization – Part 1.5 Tips from Commenters

Hey guys! I’m off to tutor in a bit, but I wanted to take a moment to share some of your Kitchen Org tips. I have been so, so blown away that that little post got so much attention! I was featured over at House of Hepworths and earlier this week OrgJunkie linked to my post. If you’ve found me from either one of those sites, WELCOME! You cannot imagine how flattered I am! I hope you’ll Follow Me and stay awhile!But I’m not the only one with kitchen advice. Here are three tips from commenters that I thought were fabulous:I bought the collapsible measuring cups and they are the best. Two don’t take up oodles of drawer space! I’ll never go back to the bulky ones again!By Anonymous I love this idea. I’ve seen collapsibles in the store, but since I didn’t want to spend extra cash, I just made do with what…

So What Wednesday…

Here’s what I’m saying “So What” to this week:1. So What if I blew off mopping the floors to go to my sewing class today.2. So What if I stayed up way too late last night blogging and reading blogs. Y’all are an interesting bunch!3. So What if it’s going to be chilly outside the rest of this week. The trees are budding and nothing is going to stop spring from pushing on through.4. So What if I took a 2 hour nap this afternoon, I was exhausted.5. So What if I’m not the best seamstress in the class, I’m learning new things and having fun and as long as you don’t look too close at my seams we’re ok. ;)What are you saying so what to?

Freezer Paper Placemats

Edited to add cost for supplies and a few more linkies.Recently, a friend recommended a site called Tipnut. The site is just slam packed with fun things to make and do and create. While checking it out I came across possibly the cutest placemats ever over at bloesem kids. Here are those adorable placemats:They are made from burlap and freezer paper. I knew I had to try it.Now, I’ll fully admit I’m probably way behind on this freezer paper stenciling thing. I spent most of the creativity I had the last 5 years on teaching and working with kids in the classroom. I’ve missed out, but oh man am I going to catch up, so when burlap went on sale 2 weeks ago at Joann’s, I snagged a yard and promised myself I’d make some. I had a coupon so I went ahead and bought the textile paint I would need as well.…

WOW…

I was feeling kind of bummed tonight because the project I thought I could whip out quickly has turned into something that’s going to take another couple of days. It’s not ruined, I just didn’t realize freezer paper was so hard to find. Go fig.To console myself, I grabbed a couple five Samoas and a glass of tea and pulled up my Google Reader to catch up on the blog posts I’m behind on and lo and behold I found myself! I was featured over at House of Hepworths! I am fairly sure I woke up my husband with my giggles and squeals of excitement.I am flat out honored and humbled and excited y’all. If you’ve made it over here from there I am so happy you’ve decided to stop by. I cannot tell you how giddy I am right now! I hope you’ll stop and stay awhile.Thanks Allison!If you haven’t…

So What Wednesday…

It’s that time again!Today I am saying “So What”…- If I stayed up late last night just to get a few things done so I’d have some free time today.- If my project link up today isn’t going as quickly as planned. It’s frustrating, but I’ll get over it.- If there’s burlap fuzz all over my dining room table. The completed project will be super cute.- If I’m a work in progress. I might not be where I need to be, but I’m not where I was. Progress is good. I’ll get the hang of this housewifing thing eventually.What are you saying “So What” to today?I hope to be back later with a project, but we’ll see how that goes…hehe.Linked to:{Source}
