Easily Organize Your Cookbooks

Hey y’all! This week I’ve been doing some quick organizing projects around here. (I should be catching up on laundry, but…well this is more fun. 😉 ) First up was to pull all of my cookbooks down from the home office bookshelves and put them on our now empty shelving on the kitchen island. Luckily when we redid our pantry with the Elfa system, I no longer needed to store bowls and serving platters on the island. It gave me some room to finally get my massive cookbook collection in the kitchen. You know, where it makes sense to store them. I didn’t just want to plop them on the shelves and call it a day though. I wanted to sort them into categories so I could find what I was looking for more easily – and make it easier on Adam to find what he needs as well. Check…

Gift Wrap Storage Ideas

When Adam and I were at The Container Store picking up our Elfa pantry system I noticed a nifty little gadget to corral the loose edges of rolls of wrapping paper. Spoiler alert! They were basically slap bracelets from 1990, only $5.99 for three. Basically you just snapped them around the roll and voila, wrap contained.  Definitely cool, but not worth that price to me. So, as I’ve been cleaning and organizing my craft room I’ve been thinking about how I could keep our stash of gift wrap from unraveling without having to buy slap bracelets. Though, you can actually still buy them on the cheap. Then, a couple of weeks ago, I came across a stash of elastic I got in a Pick Your Plum grab box a few years ago and I knew exactly what to do! I had a ton of this elastic and I could only make so…

Kitchen Command Gallery Wall

Hey y’all! As part of our “catch up in June” goal, a few weeks ago I decided to turn this hot mess into a functional command center wall in our kitchen. Forgive the mess, we’d just torn apart the pantry too and things were a bit, well, a lot messy. I got started by patching and painting the wall in our favorite neutral, Behr’s Bungalow Beige. You can find it at Home Depot as part of their Home Decorator’s collection. We’re planning on remodeling the kitchen hopefully this year (hopefully…) so I didn’t paint the rest of the kitchen yet, which means it looks sort of wonky, but this end of the kitchen is lovely now! 😉 Over the last six months or so I’ve been collecting pieces for this wall. I didn’t want to buy a “set”. I wanted to break out of the mold I’m usually in and…

Taming ticket stubs with Project Life

In the last couple of weeks, I’ve been going through and cleaning out my craft room (again). In the process, I’m finding a lot of memorabilia in the way of ticket stubs, business cards, etc that I want to eventually include in my Project Life layouts but right now just seem to be sitting around getting shuffled into stacks of papers, projects and, well, mess. One set of tickets even went through the wash. Yeah. I really needed a solution to store them safely without filling another box of stuff. Then it hit me. If I’m going to include it in Project Life then why not just attach them to Project Life cards? Ah but then, how do I know how do I know what kind of cards I’ll get around to using when I do the actual layouts? I turned to my PL stash. I wanted to find the core kits…

Craft Room Organization: Paint and Lighting

Hey guys! Happy Wednesday! I thought you might want another little sneaky peek at my craft and sewing room. Frankly, I couldn’t keep these lights a secret anymore. Check it out:A quick snap of the paint job. It’s a soft sagey, mint green. I got my color inspiration from a blog of all places. Anyone else follow A Bowl Full of Lemons? She recently changed her blog design and the minute I saw her color scheme, I knew that’s what I wanted in my craft room.OK, now that we have color scheme covered – let me just tell you how much I’m in love with the lighting we added. Serious love y’all…serious. There were no overhead lights and the big paper ball light we had in the office in the apartment did nothing to light the space at night, so on a trip to Ikea, I took a walk through their…

How To: Organize and Maintain Your Medicine Cabinet

Before we moved, I had planned on being super organized, purging and donating and tossing. Well, that didn’t happen, but when we moved in this did: I just kind of tossed the medicine cabinet stuff in its new home. Well, I tried to organize it. I bought those little baskets with the intent to organize. You know, cold meds in one, stomach upset stuff in another. Sadly, I didn’t measure before buying the baskets and they never really fit. I put the meds in (what would fit anyway), placed the baskets on the shelves and closed the door…only the doors didn’t close. Yeah, organizing FAIL! So I decided to try something different. I ran to Wal-Mart and grabbed two cheap 3 tiered spice racks and got to work. First, I pulled everything out of the cabinet. Clearly we had a lot of over the counter medicines – some of which…

Hobby Binders

Hey y’all. I’ve been working on our home office again, namely my craft-splosion, and what I’ve discovered about myself is that I love paper. And I mean love paper. It’s everywhere. Ev-er-y-where. Scrapbook paper, craft ideas, sewing patterns and on and on. It’s a bit out of control. I’ve gotten a new tool to take care of the more “home office” type of paper (ie: bills, manuals, etc), but I when considering the paper I have for craft projects, scrapbook layouts, and sewing – I really can’t go paperless. I mean, I can’t sew without pattern pieces. When considering that I have quite a few hobbies, I knew I needed a cute, organized way to store all of it that would be handy when I needed something, but streamlined and easily stored when I didn’t.Enter Hobby Binders!I created six colorful binders that would hold information for each of my six(!)…

DIY Chalkboard Labels

On Monday, I showed you my linen closet revamp and mentioned I had created some DIY chalkboard labels. Here’s what they looked like on my new storage boxes:Here’s a closer look:I think they turned out incredibly cute, but here’s a disclaimer: They were a &%%^& to make…at first. So I thought I’d offer up some tips to make your mission, should you choose to accept it, a bit easier.I used the DCWV Chalkboard Stack and chose a black sheet for my labels. I love that the chalkboard stack has different colors! It’s like having chalkboard paint without the expense. :)Tips for the Chalkboard Stack:I used my Cricut to cut out the shape I wanted, but the chalkboard cardstock is difficult to work with via the Cricut. It didn’t really, totally stick to the adhesive mat, which meant that it slid around. If you want to try and use your Cricut with this…

March Before And After – How I Organize My Linen Closet

Well, if you’ve been following me at all over on Facebook or Twitter then you know I’ve been working on a couple of big projects around here that have taken far more time than necessary. You forgive me right? ;)Anyway, tonight I finally get to share one of those projects with you! I’m so excited about this because I’ve been meaning to show you my linen closet organization for awhile, but then the holidays hit and well – the linen closet wasn’t at it’s best. Let’s take a look at the before:She’s definitely not her best in that picture. 😉 Good thing I cleaned her up a bit. Here’s what I did:Zone 1 – Linen Storage – The BeforeSo as you can tell, I’m kind of into home linens and I’m constantly getting more of my mom’s stuff with each visit from my dad, so things were kind of getting…
