Hey y’all! I know it’s been a couple of weeks since I last posted and I gotta tell ya, I’ve been one busy girl. I’m a tutor “in real life” and I have been crazy busy. Add to that some personal business that needed to be taken care of and it’s been a mess over here. But I will tell you this: I have been so incredibly blessed by Homemaker’s Challenge – 31 Days to Clean. It has kicked me into high gear and I have needed that kick. This week I spent time catching up on the more “Martha” stuff…you know, the chores. One of the first things I tackled as a blogger was my kitchen, showing you how you can make a small (painfully small) rental kitchen functional. You can find more information on that here and here. They were two of my most successful posts ever! Who knew kitchen organization was such…

Learning to Crochet
While I was planted on the couch sick earlier this week I spent some time catching up on my blog reader. I was painfully behind. 😉 One of my favorite crafty bloggers is Allison at little lovelies. She is so talented and creative. She’s single-handedly rekindled my love for embroidery (something I’ve loved working on since childhood, but lost touch with as I got older). She doesn’t know who the heck I am. 😉 But anyway…now she’s gotten me interested in something I’ve always wanted to learn how to do…CROCHET!My mother was super talented. She could do pretty much whatever she set her mind to. Crocheting was one of her many talents. Unfortunately, I never acquired that talent. ;)Anywho, while I was catching up on Allison’s awesome blog…she mentioned joining up for a free (don’t we all love FREE?) crochet-along class at Maybe Matilda. I was instantly hooked (crochet joke…get it?…
Homemaker’s Challenge – Week 1
Click the button above to read more about the challenge and to find information about purchasing the book. I have not been compensated.Good Evening All! I wanted to give you an update on what’s going on so far over at Homemaker’s Challenge. The challenge focuses on being a homemaker and what that entails of course (cooking, cleaning, taking care of the children…) but also on why we do what we do. So far we’ve completed (I say “we”, but I’m not quite as caught up – more on that in a second) Days 1 – 7 of Sarah Mae’s e-book 31 Days to Clean – Having a Martha House the Mary Way. If you’re caught up on your Bible you know who Mary and Martha are, but if not here’s a quick (and probably pretty sloppy) explanation. Martha is your typical Type A housewife type. Work then fun (if you don’t get…
Saturday at the Farmer’s Market
My husband and I love spending time on the weekends at one of the many local farmer’s markets in our area. We are lucky enough to live in a farming and agricultural area of the country where fresh, local produce is abundant in the summer and fall months. This weekend we took a twenty minute drive north to one we hadn’t been to before and I thought I’d share with you some of the variety you can find at a farmer’s market. Take a look:Yummy jalapeno peppers. I would’ve bought them, but I already have a plant of them hanging on my balcony.Fresh homemade pies! These things smelled delicious. I would’ve taken one home, but hubby doesn’t like cooked fruit and I knew I couldn’t shouldn’t eat a whole pie by myself. ;)I loved the color on these pears!Cheese from local dairy farms. In our area you can even still have your…

Homemaker’s Challenge (and news about a Giveaway tomorrow!)
Hey guys! Thanks to a heads up from A Home Made by Kiki, I’ve decided to participate in the Homemaker’s Challenge – 31 Days to Clean. I first heard of 31 Days to Clean, over at Eat at Home and bought the ebook several months ago and then promptly left it sit on the virtual shelf. 😉 Tell me you do that too…You can read a description of the book here. Basically the challenge isn’t just about cleaning your home, but exploring your motivations for doing so and learning to live not just between chores, but really live and engage in things that make you happy. I will be very honest. This is faith based and I realize that it probably isn’t for everyone. I’m going to be blogging my progress through the challenge a few times a week for the next 4 weeks. If this isn’t your cup of tea then…
Quick Tip
I don’t know about you, but I haven’t been blessed by the Dyson Fairy just yet. 😉 My vacuum is bagless, but it still has an accordion cone filter that attaches to the dirt bin. Try as I might I could not keep that thing clean, until I discovered that a hair pick works great to fit in between the accordion folds. Now, when I clean out the vacuum bin, I just scrape excess dust off of the filter with the hair pick. Works like a charm. Now, if the Dyson Fairy could only hear me…Happy Tuesday!
Monday Morning Thoughts
I was enjoying my pumpkin spice coffee and thought I’d spend a few minutes sharing some time with y’all this morning. We survived Irene and were actually really lucky. We just had some wind and rain. We’re pretty far inland though and realize that not everyone in our state and the states around us were so lucky. Our prayers are definitely with everyone effected by the storm. As a matter of fact, the only injury we had this weekend was when The Hubs sliced the tip of his finger off using the mandolin slicer. Thank heavens we both have first aid training, it was a little gruesome. I still think we should’ve gone to urgent care, but he’s a guy. 😉 Thankfully today it’s looking much better. So now he’s off to work and I took a couple of days off from tutoring to get a few things done now that my students are back in…
