Last Sunday, I had the pleasure of throwing my good friend Jill’s bridal shower. Let me tell ya – it was a labor of love. It was the first time I’d ever had to plan a party like this (at least for adults, when you’re a teacher you plan parties for kids several times a year) and add to the fact that I had to try and keep it as kosher as possible (given I’m not Jewish and don’t keep a kosher home) it was a challenge! That’s a lot of parentheses sorry. ;)Well all the hard work paid off and I was super pleased with the results! I know a few of my readers are planning weddings and so I thought I’d share the decor I put together (on the cheap).Jill’s wedding colors are navy/dark blue and silver, but trying to find navy party decor without ordering it is…

THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED. WINNER ANNOUNCED 5/5/2012. THANKS FOR ENTERING!Hello Ladies! I am super excited to share my first sponsored giveaway with you!FashiontoFigure.comWhen Jessica at FashiontoFigure.com contacted me last week and told me she’d love to give one of my awesome readers a free item of $30 or less I was over the moon excited. But then…well then, I saw the website and I was really excited (and dare I say just a little bit jealous of the winner?).Here’s the deal: The “average” woman in the US is a size 12. I wear a size 14/16 and I kinda hate shopping. There just isn’t a wide range of clothing for girls with curves (and look, no matter what size you are, you should be proud of what you’ve got and be able to dress in a way that makes you feel beautiful…sexy even.) This is where Fashion to Figure comes…

Stop SOPA/PIPA
I said I wasn’t going to post this week (and I certainly never get political because I don’t think this is the place for politics), but this is important to me. SOPA/PIPA laws could impact freedom of speech on the internet. It could shut down sites like Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and the like. It could shut down blogs that upset corporations with opinions they don’t like. Please get educated about this bill and contact your representatives in Congress to tell them you DON’T want to lose freedom of speech on the internet. We do need to protect our copyright, but this law does not do that. Simple workarounds would ensure that people interested in piracy would still be able to get content. It does not protect anything and could end up doing more damage than good.Check out these links and sign the petition:http://fightforthefuture.org/pipa/ https://www.google.com/landing/takeaction/ Don’t remain silent now, or you could…

I might’ve been confused. 😉
Come On Irene! Part 1
Hey guys, thought you might want to see what my hunkered down apartment looks like at the moment. We’re anxiously watching the Weather channel for details. Irene should reach us around 8 PM. All the waiting is kind of driving me insane. Here’s our guest bathroom filled with the contents of our balcony. We had to clear it off to protect stuff from blowing around.Who doesn’t want a lawn chair in their bathroom? Classy right?Herb garden. Yes, I know it needs a little pruning.Horrible picture of my hot pepper Topsy Turvy and the tomato plant I had to ditch because it was dying. The sucker never even gave one stinkin’ tomato! Anyone else have this issue with the Topsy Turvy?Pictures looking out of our sliding glass doors (we’re on the third floor). All of the windows in our apartment have since been taped up in case of breakage.I’m going to try…
This is me not panicking.
Hey y’all. If you haven’t already heard there was an earthquake in my area today. USGS reports a 5.8 earthquake hit in Virginia. I am in Maryland. The house I was in shook like nobodies business. It was, shall I say, a disturbing experience, but luckily there isn’t any damage where I am, just a good story. If you’re in this area too, I hope all is well with you. USGS says to prepare for aftershocks. Be safe out there!
Preserving Your Memories
A few years ago when my then boyfriend (now The Hubs) and I were discussing the seriousness of our relationship and where we wanted things to go we had all the typical discussions. When will we move in together? Whose couch will we use? Which dining room table will we keep? Little did we know it would be sooner rather than later, and all of those questions would be moot. Two weeks before I was to arrive to spend the summer here (we were long distance) his apartment burned down and he lost 95% of his stuff. In the end, I took two weeks to pack my house and move everything – leaving behind a job, family and friends. That’s love people. I didn’t even think about what to do, I just did it and I haven’t regretted my decision for a second, but that’s not what this post is…
