Laundry Closet Make Over Part 2 – The After

I’m BAAACK! (And it’s about time ain’t it?) We finally found my big girl camera charger and I was a picture takin’ fool today because I have been waiting anxiously to show you the “After” photos from my Laundry Closet Make Over.If you’re wondering what the heck I’m talking about, start HERE.Let’s take a peek at the dismal space we started with:*Womp Womp* See how sad? Well not anymore! Take a look:Ta Da! I am literally in love with my laundry space now. These baskets were in our bathroom in our apartment, so I gave them a good clean and then added paint chip tags I cut out with a punch. Then I hand stamped the tags letter by letter and simply attached them with clothespins from my stash that I dressed up with some coordinating ribbon from the dollar bin at Michaels. These jars were used in our old laundry room, but…

Laundry Closet Make Over Part 1

If you’ve been following me on Facebook at all this week, then you know that I’ve had the magic touch for the last two days. 😉 It started by me further damaging our back door (that’s now been fixed) and yesterday, I threw in a load of laundry only to find our washer horribly broken.Given that the washer is probably original to the house (12 – 16 years old, if not just a bit younger at around 10 years old) we decided to buy a new one. The washer and dryer were left by the previous owner and well, we’ve established how clean she was. I scrubbed those suckers clean prior to using them. Trust me…Anyway, “let’s buy a new washer” turned into, “Honey, I have a plan…” by the time The Hubs got home from work. My “plan” consisted of “Hey, honey, let’s give the laundry closet a new…

How to Get Smoke Out of Clothing

Hi guys! I just wanted to share a quick laundry tip with you today. A few years ago, just before we moved in together, The Hubs had a house fire and lost pretty much everything. What clothes he could salvage smelled…well, not so nice. At the time, it wasn’t in the budget to replace everything so I had to salvage what I could. I wanted to save his clothing so he’d at least have more than one set (that he was washing nightly – I felt so bad for him!) until we could get out and get him some new things. So, I did what any nerdy girlfriend would do. I did a little research online and discovered an awesome way to get rid of the nasty, sooty smoke and ick. Check it out: You’ll need some Arm & Hammer powder laundry detergent in “Free” and a giant jug of distilled white…

Laundry Care Flip Chart

Um, hey y’all…can one of you tell me where last week went? Yeah…sorry about that unplanned break. I’ll be sharing with you the things we’ve been working on over here soon, but for now I wanted to share a quick and easy (and helpful! Dare I say hubby proof?) little project that will make laundry time go a little more smoothly.I took some time last week to create a laundry care and instructions flip chart to hang in our laundry closet. If you’re the primary laundry-doer (clearly, not a word…ah right, laundress…got it) in your household you may have seen all those funny little symbols on the tags of your clothing and towels. I swear to you that clothing manufacturers are going away from using words on tags. It’s infuriating to me. I can’t keep all of those little symbols straight! It’s a little nuts. So here’s what I did. You’ll…

Cheap Laundry Trash Can Craft

Yesterday I wrote my post about how I dug in and dug out of my laundry room clutter and chaos. At the end of that post, I showed you this cute little trash bin that I made to go atop my dryer to catch lint, dryer sheets, etc:I promised that today I’d tell you what it began life as, how much it cost me to make, and how I made it. So here goes:Did you guess what it was? Here’s an up close shot:Well? Any ideas? If you guessed it was a $1.00 kid’s beach pail from Walmart you were absolutely correct! After dragging my poor Hubs around Walmart for over an hour searching for the perfect little trash can to sit on top of the dryer and finding nothing, he suggested we check the kids section and we found this! I figured hey, it’s a dollar. If I hate it, I’m…

Laundry Area Spruce Up

Edited: As promised, you can check out how I made my cute trash bin here. Before we left for our trip to Florida, I mentioned that I had made an insane list of things for myself to do, most of which had no bearing on our trip at all. One of those things was our laundry area. It’s not a room by a long shot as our apartment seems to be shorted on functional workspace, but it seems to serve the purpose. The only problem was that recently, when I’d go in to throw a load in, I’d see this:There’s a dryer in there I promise. You just can’t see it for all of the crap on top. Then I’d open the cabinet I designated for laundry supplies and see this:I realize it could’ve been worse, but I was getting annoyed by how much stuff was in there. Some of which was…
