If you haven’t started following Jane’s blog The Borrowed Abode then you are missing out! In her blog, Jane explores living in and decorating a rental space, but I assure you that you do not need to be a renter to enjoy what she presents. A couple of weeks ago she blogged here about how to “scape the table” and decorate with beautiful trays. I often have difficulty with the “layering” of it all when decorating so this was the perfect blog post for me. So last week, I shot her an email and asked if she would mind if I tried my hand at decorating with a new tray I found at Ikea and then shared her ideas with you. She said to go for it, so Jane, this is for you!
First, grab yourself a tray. I found this gorgeous one at Ikea for $10.00 two weekends ago:
- Magazines
- Plants
- Coasters
- Candles
- (or in our case) The remotes for your really too large television that your hubby insists on. *ahem*
Here’s what it looks like on our very vintage mid-century modern tables that I love, and that need some serious TLC.

NICE!!! I need to do more of this – but I have a 16 month old running around and he defies all of my effort 🙂 Soon, as in 5 years, I think I’ll be able to start pulling together my home!!
Oh I love it!! And now I’m pretty sure I need to find some copies of American Bungalow. I’ve always been a fan of Stickley furniture.
And thanks for the shout-out. 🙂
PS: Are you going to share some pics of that mid-mod table?
great job!! oh no, another blog to check out…I read too many already, lol! 😉
Hi, it’s me again…Thanks for putting up our blog party button. I wanted to ask you though; do you think you could delete that one and come get the code and re-add it to your sidebar? I was having a problem with the button during the first link party, and the code for the button was not “clickable”, so people can’t get to our blog, eeek! It’s fixed now. so if you don’t mind deleting the code for that one, and just re-adding the new (fixed) code, it should work. thanks!
Now I have to figure out who else has a broken button, eeeek! lol
Great idea- love the tray and the way it looked once you put items in it. Found your blog through the borrowed abode- its great.
