Come On Irene! Part 2

**Issue with the video link…working on it. Fixed it! Figured out how to embed it.Okie dokie, she’s here! Check out my Facebook Page for video from my balcony (don’t worry, I was inside with my cell phone up against the glass). And while you’re there…”Like” my page. There might be something special coming up for Facebook fans…just sayin’. ;)Video of Irene Blowing InBest quotes from the Weather Channel thus far:”Folks it’s not just the water from the ocean we have to worry about, there will also be water coming from the sky.” Um, really?”All that driving air…we call that wind.”Thank heavens they cleared that up. I might’ve been confused. 😉

Come On Irene! Part 1

Hey guys, thought you might want to see what my hunkered down apartment looks like at the moment. We’re anxiously watching the Weather channel for details. Irene should reach us around 8 PM. All the waiting is kind of driving me insane. Here’s our guest bathroom filled with the contents of our balcony. We had to clear it off to protect stuff from blowing around.Who doesn’t want a lawn chair in their bathroom? Classy right?Herb garden. Yes, I know it needs a little pruning.Horrible picture of my hot pepper Topsy Turvy and the tomato plant I had to ditch because it was dying. The sucker never even gave one stinkin’ tomato! Anyone else have this issue with the Topsy Turvy?Pictures looking out of our sliding glass doors (we’re on the third floor). All of the windows in our apartment have since been taped up in case of breakage.I’m going to try…

A Cheap (and I mean really cheap) Storage Solution

Well as promised I decided to give y’all a peek at what I’m working on for my next project. A while back I showed you this picture: It’s a hint to what my newest project is and while I’m not entirely ready to tell you what that is or reveal my big plan, I did want to show you some awesome storage I’ve come up with using the jars you see in the picture. Here’s what I did: As you can see there are different sizes and shapes of glass jars. Some of them are from pasta sauce, salsa and even pickles. We don’t have a recycling program at our apartment complex so I try to reuse what we can and the rest gets schlepped to the recycling center. I chose to use these jars as a new storage solution for the little things that clutter up the area I’m reworking in…

Hurricane Preparedness

So, it’s been kind of a strange week here in Maryland. Yesterday we had an earthquake and this weekend we’re looking at the outskirts of a hurricane. It’s a little bit crazy around here! While I was totally not prepared for the blizzards I would encounter here (thankfully The Hubs was!), I am definitely prepared for a hurricane. I’m from Florida for Pete’s sake. Been there, done that, have the t-shirt. Actually I did have the t-shirt after that weird summer when we had 5(!) hit the state.Anywho, while I was checking Facebook this morning I saw a fellow blog buddy Kristina over at A Home Made by Kiki (Do you know her? If not you should totally check out her blog!) had asked her Facebook friends what to stock up on for this crazy hurricane. Being the former Florida girl that I am, I couldn’t help but reply with…

This is me not panicking.

Hey y’all. If you haven’t already heard there was an earthquake in my area today. USGS reports a 5.8 earthquake hit in Virginia. I am in Maryland. The house I was in shook like nobodies business. It was, shall I say, a disturbing experience, but luckily there isn’t any damage where I am, just a good story. If you’re in this area too, I hope all is well with you. USGS says to prepare for aftershocks. Be safe out there!

Preserving Your Memories

A few years ago when my then boyfriend (now The Hubs) and I were discussing the seriousness of our relationship and where we wanted things to go we had all the typical discussions. When will we move in together? Whose couch will we use? Which dining room table will we keep? Little did we know it would be sooner rather than later, and all of those questions would be moot. Two weeks before I was to arrive to spend the summer here (we were long distance) his apartment burned down and he lost 95% of his stuff. In the end, I took two weeks to pack my house and move everything – leaving behind a job, family and friends. That’s love people. I didn’t even think about what to do, I just did it and I haven’t regretted my decision for a second, but that’s not what this post is…

Magic Egg Tip

Well, I still haven’t had time for crafting (something I’m entirely not happy about…can a girl just get a little “me” time? geez…), but I did have time to take some pictures of something I do when I clean out my fridge.I learned this trick from a friend’s mom (via the friend) for checking eggs to see if they’re still good. Eggs are often good beyond their expiration date, but you have to be careful about using them. Here’s what you can do to check:1. Grab a big bowl and fill it with water.2. GENTLY drop your eggs in the bowl.If the eggs sink and lay on their side, they’re good, fresh eggs you can use freely. (Bad blogger, I didn’t get a picture of this.)If the eggs sink, but stand on end, you need to use them very soon because they’re still usable (i.e. – won’t make you sick)…

Inspiration Point

These items are inspiration for a new project I’m working on. Can you guess what the pink thing is? I’ll be sharing the outcome soon. (Just as soon as my pinched nerve resolves itself and I can do heavy lifting…hehe.) What do you find inspiration in?
